BARRY HUTTON

Category: Coach
Sport: Touch Football & Men's Basketball
Institution: Mohawk College
Inducted: 2009

Barry Hutton is undoubtedly one of the most successful coaches in OCAA history. Without peer in OCAA touch football, his teams won a medal in each of his 23 years at the helm.

Beginning in 1981, Mohawk won eight out of the next 10 gold medals and incredibly in the years when Mohawk did not claim gold, they claimed either a silver or bronze medal. In total, Hutton's squads claimed 15 OCAA championships under Barry's leadership. His coaching achievements and knowledge of touch football were unparalleled in Canada.

These accomplishments would normally stand alone when considering induction. However, factor in 11 successful years as coach of the Mountaineers men's basketball team, making Barry the unquestionable Dean of Mohawk coaches in terms of service to the college and its varsity teams and possibly in OCAA history for more than one sport.

During Hutton's tenure with the basketball teams, he was twice named OCAA coach of the year, capturing an OCAA silver and three bronze medals and only missing the playoffs once in his 11-year career. For Barry Hutton, the words coaching and success are one and the same.

Hutton was inducted into the Mohawk College Hall of Fame in 2008.
