Herb Kirkconnell began his career as an administrator at Durham
College in 1967. The former Canadian badminton champion was part of
the original staff hired by the college, and as the head of Student
Services, his support and leadership led to the introduction of
intercollegiate athletics at Durham College.
During his lengthy career at Durham, he was involved in many
growth projects and supported all student activities. His support
and vision in 1976 led to the landmark construction of the Athletic
Complex, which officially opened its doors in 1977.
His commitment, dedication and loyalty to athletics was always
present throughout his 23-year career at Durham College and his
direction was the reason behind the berth of Durham College
Athletics.
In 1983, Kirkconnell was honoured by the OCAA with the presentation of a Shield Award.
