Steve McLaughlin led the athletic department at the Fleming College Lindsay Campus for over 20 years. During this period, Steve served as the OCAA Men's Hockey and Men's Volleyball Senior Convenors, as well as the OCAA Vice President Programs in consecutive terms during the turn of the century.

In 1981, Steve traveled to the University of New Brunswick to observe its woodsmen competition hosting requirements. On Nov. 20, 1982, Fleming College hosted its first Woodsmen competition. The Fleming Loggersports competition is now one of the largest college/university events on the competitive circuit.

Steve moved onto Centennial in 2009 where he was the catalyst to revitalize the athletic department. Steve was at the forefront of the building and development of the Athletic and Wellness Centre at Centennial College. Centennial entered back into OCAA men's and women's volleyball in 2015-16 after an absence of many seasons. Centennial entered back into women's basketball in 2009 after an absence of 18 years, despite not having a facility to play in.
