DOUG QUEEN

Category: Coach
Sport: Badminton & Tennis
Institution: St. Clair College
Inducted: 2009

Queen began his career at St. Clair College as an athlete with the men's hockey team and was a top scorer earning numerous OCAA medals.

After graduation he began working at St. Clair with the Athletic Department as a Gym Facility Technician. Doug however made his mark in coaching like no other coach before or since with the Tennis and Badminton teams in the mid 1970s at St. Clair.

With badminton he started in 1974-75 and coached 18 seasons bringing 26 OCAA provincial championship medals back to the campus at St. Clair College. Three other CCAA national medals were won in that time making a total of 29 medals for his badminton team members. Countless other regional titles were won in that span as well as two overall OCAA team championships in 1977-78 and 1979-80.

He was equally impressive in tennis with a 14-year stint that began in 1976-77. Doug's teams won 27 OCAA provincial medals as he was only coach St. Clair ever had in the sport of tennis.

He is the most decorated coach St. Clair has ever had in its 43-year history, amassing more medals than any other coach. It is quite possible that his records and accomplishments will never be touched.
