MEDALS AWARDED AT OCAA BADMINTON CHAMPIONSHIPS
Day 2 of the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton Championships took place at the Conestoga Student Recreation Centre, featuring the final round of preliminary competition and the medal rounds.
KITCHENER, Ont. - Day 2 of the 2025 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Badminton Championships took place at the Conestoga Student Recreation Centre, featuring the final round of preliminary competition and the medal rounds. Collegiate athletes battled for medals in the men's and women's singles, men's and women's doubles, and mixed doubles categories. The gold and silver medalists in each category will advance to the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton National Championships in Edmonton later this month. Here's a look at the standout performances and medalists from today.
MEN'S SINGLES
Players from George Brown College, Conestoga College, Humber Polytechnic, and St. Lawrence College competed in the semifinals. After intense matches, George Brown's Sahil Lokhande and Humber's Timothy Lock advanced to the gold medal match, while Conestoga's Max Barnes and St. Lawrence's Maneet Lok Singh Bindra played for bronze. The final results saw St. Lawrence's Maneet Lok Singh Bindra claiming bronze, George Brown's Sahil Lokhande earning silver, and Humber's Timothy Lock securing gold.
WOMEN'S SINGLES
The women's singles category also saw impressive rounds of matches, with Collège Boréal, Conestoga, Fanshawe College, and George Brown advancing to the semifinals. Conestoga's Mandy Ni and George Brown's Ellen Shen moved on to the gold medal match, while Boréal's Kristen Vane and Fanshawe's Samantha Darby faced off for bronze. The final results saw Boréal's Kristen Vane winning bronze, Conestoga's Mandy Ni taking silver, and George Brown's Ellen Shen capturing gold.
MEN'S DOUBLES
In the men's doubles category, semifinal matchups included teams from Seneca Polytechnic, Humber, Lambton College, and Fanshawe. The results saw Lambton's Milton Smith and Mirza Muhammed Shafeek Razaq taking bronze, Fanshawe's Jan Dave Deocampo and Ty Nguyen securing silver, and Seneca's Anthony Tso and Jordan Lau winning gold.
WOMEN'S DOUBLES
Teams from George Brown, Centennial College, Seneca, and Humber battled in the semifinals of the women's doubles category. The final standings saw George Brown's Gaeun (Kaylee) Choi and Sarah Song winning gold, Humber's Shruti Joshi and Ayushi Vasava earning silver, and Seneca's Xue (Amy) Xing and Kiu Wing (Vanness) Lam taking bronze.
MIXED DOUBLES
The mixed doubles semifinals featured players from Centennial, Humber, George Brown and Fanshawe. The medalists were Humber's Sherry Wu and Dhruvkumar Raval, winning gold, Centennial's Jonathan Ma and Lheidelle Santos taking silver, and Fanshawe's Ty Nguyen and Nicole Kim securing bronze.
Overall Humber Polytechnic successfully defended its OCAA men's team championship, while George Brown College wins its first OCAA women's team championship banner since 2019.
The competition now moves to the 2025 Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) Badminton National Championships, taking place from February 27 to March 1 in Edmonton, Alberta. Congratulations to all the competitors!
