TORONTO - The old adage held true on Sunday afternoon that "you can't score runs if you don't put the bat on the ball." The Seneca Sting were limited to just one hit as they were baffled by the extraordinary pitching performance by the St. Clair's Alexa Georgiou in a 7-0 shutout defeat.

St. Clair scored in each of the first four innings with a combination of timely hitting and poor Sting fielding.

The Saints opened the scoring the top of the first inning with a RBI single by Skyler Patteson. The hit to right centrefield allowed Amelia Maniuk to score on the play from second base.

Seneca's lone hit came with two outs in the bottom of the first inning. First year Nicole D'Anjou (Pickering) hit a deep fly ball to left field which took one bounce before hitting the fence. D'Anjou hustled all the way to third on the play, but the Sting were unable to get her across home plate.

The Saints added two runs in the second inning on just one hit, but were aided by two Sting errors. Kallie Desjarlais was the first to cross the plate in the inning as she scored following an error. Rian Desbiens also scored in the inning after she was hit home by Maniuk.

The third inning saw the Saints add three more runs followed by a seventh run in the fourth inning.

Krista Owczar (Peterborough) allowed seven runs (four earned) on eight hits while striking two and walking one batter. Owczar also had two wild pitches.

The star of the game was Georgiou on the mound as she struck out 10 batters while allowed one hit and zero walks.

Seneca's Lindsay Ballance (Napanee) had two putouts and three assists, but was victimized by three errors and a pair of strikeouts.

Patteson was the top batter for St. Clair, going 2-for-4 with a run and RBI. Patteson was also a part of the game's only double play in the fifth inning following a strikeout and throw to first base.

The Sting get back in action on Tuesday as they host Mohawk Mountaineers in a doubleheader at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. at Newnham Campus Field. The Saints will travel to Conestoga on Friday for a 5:30 p.m. start.
