FANSHAWE 8, ST. CLAIR 3

LONDON, Ont. - On Wednesday evening, the Fanshawe women's softball team (3-1) hosted the St. Clair Saints (5-1) in doubleheader action. The teams split the games with Fanshawe winning 8-3 and then St. Clair winning 10-7.

In the first game of the night, Fanshawe jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning after Jacey Lochert singled home Samantha Fuller to open the scoring. St. Clair tied the game with a sacrifice fly in top of the second inning but Fanshawe stormed right back. With the bases loaded, Fanshawe's Kady Hawkins hit a single up the middle and drove in two to give the Falcons a 3-1 lead.

Fanshawe would bring in two more in the inning and lead 5-1 after two innings of play. The Saints would score two runs in the top of the fourth but Fanshawe would still lead 5-3 through four innings.

In the bottom of the sixth, after three straight singles to start the inning, Fanshawe's Lochert dropped down a bunt single to score one. Fanshawe would score two more in the inning and go on to win by a final score of 8-3. Pitcher Lydia Kalbfleisch would finish the complete game with just 67 pitches.

In the second game of the doubleheader, St. Clair jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play. However, in the bottom of the second, three straight singles to start the inning for the Falcons set up a three-run inning, giving Fanshawe the 3-2 after two innings.

In the third, after St. Clair started the inning with a pair of singles, Fanshawe turned an unbelievable 8-5 double play followed by an outfield assist at the plate to get out of the inning. The Falcons then scored two runs in the bottom half of the inning to take a 5-2 lead.

The Saints scored one in the top of the fourth but the Falcons responded in the bottom half with one of their own on a wild pitch and led 6-3 after four innings. In the bottom of the fifth with two outs and the bases loaded, Fanshawe's Rachel Dotzert singled up the middle to score another run and give the Falcons the 7-3 lead.

Unfortunately for the Falcons, St. Clair stormed back with two runs in the sixth and five runs in the seventh to come back and win the game 10-7.

Fanshawe returns to the diamond on Saturday, when they head on the road to Toronto to take on the Seneca Sting (0-4).
