Student-athletes are nominated by their respective athletic departments.
Caldre Campbell
School: Mohawk
Program: Child & Youth Care
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Hamilton, Ont.
In a 95-90 overtime win for the Mohawk Mountaineers over the Niagara Knights on Nov. 13, Campbell scored 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting to go along with six rebounds. The fifth-year guard also knocked down five triples, with two coming in the overtime period. Campbell's efficient offence continued in a 99-82 win over the Canadore Panthers on Nov. 16, scoring 16 points on 6-of-8 shooting off the bench and was 4-of-5 from the three-point arc. It was a near triple-double performance for Campbell, adding seven rebounds, seven assists and three steals.
Natasha Grenier
School: La Cité
Program: Respiratory Therapy
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Grenier came up big in a couple of straight sets victories for La Cité this past weekend in the nation's capital. The third-year power accumulated a match-high 21 points on eight kills, four service aces and nine stuff blocks as the Coyotes mauled the George Brown Huskies on Nov. 16 in a clash of canines. The following day, Grenier contributed another match-high with 14 points on nine aces and five kills in a sweep of the Fleming Phoenix. The two victories lifted the Coyotes to a 4-4 record right in the middle of the pack in the East Division standings.
Geneva Huisman
School: St. Clair
Program: Child & Youth Care
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Amherstburg, Ont.
Huisman led the St. Clair Saints to their sixth and seventh straight wins to start the season this past week. On Nov. 13 the third-year middle had a huge game as the Saints beat the Conestoga Condors in four sets. Huisman had 19 kills, one service ace and four stuff blocks for 24 points and a kill percentage of .643. On Nov. 17 Huisman contributed 15 kills, two aces, and four blocks for 21 points in St. Clair's four-set victory over the Niagara Knights. Through seven matches Huisman leads the Saints with averaging 4.3 points and 3.25 kills per set.
Sahil Lokhande
School: George Brown
Program: Marketing Management - Digital Media
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Badminton
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
The first-year student-athlete on the George Brown Huskies was spectacular in a full weekend of action at the 33rd annual Fanshawe Falcons Invitational tournament in London from Nov. 15-17. Lokhande claimed the men's singles title winning all five matches without dropping a set, and only surrendering more than a dozen points in a set once. This came in a 21-17, 21-12 outcome over Centennial's Jonathan Ma in the final. Lokhande followed this effort with a semi-final berth in mixed doubles action, competing with partner Kaylee Choi.
Bianca Marchetti
School: Conestoga
Program: Interior Design
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Volleyball
Hometown: Richmond Hill, Ont.
Returning from a five game injury layoff, Marchetti's offensive dominance resumed, putting up 18 points on 11 kills and seven service aces in a four-set victory over the Sheridan Bruins on Nov. 16, marking the first league win of the season for the Conestoga Condors. In addition to ending a seven-match losing streak, the third-year outside hitter became the Conestoga program's all-time leading scorer with 594 career points. Marchetti is averaging 4.04 points per set over 41 career OCAA regular season matches spanning two-plus seasons.
Sydney Shawyer
School: Georgian
Program: Interior Design
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Basketball
Hometown: Horseshoe Valley, Ont.
Shawyer's dynamic play led the Georgian Grizzlies to back-to-back victories last week. Against the Centennial Colts on Nov. 12, Shawyer's scoring dominance was showcased with a game-high 23 points, shooting an efficient 8-of-13 from the field and 4-of-9 from three-point range, while also adding six rebounds and two assists in a 72-61 win. The first-year forward followed this up with another strong outing off the bench against the Seneca Sting on Nov. 15, contributing nine points, six rebounds and a team-high five assists in a 67-59 victory.
