MOHAWK 77, CAMBRIAN 69
SUDBURY, Ont. - The Mohawk Mountaineers scored men's and women's victories in OCAA basketball in Sudbury, Ont., on Saturday.
The women topped the Cambrian Golden Shield 77-69, as Stef Hrymak scored 24 points and added four rebounds and five steals. Shanien O'Neill had 13 points and Jakayla Douse contributed 10 points and nine rebounds for Mohawk, which is battling through multiple injuries at this time and was tested by a hard working Cambrian team.
Mohawk upped its record to 5-1 while Cambrian dropped to 1-5.
The two teams meet again Sunday morning at 10 a.m.
The Mohawk men coasted to a 110-59 victory over Cambrian. Matt Fennell scored 22 points and had seven rebounds. Andrew Cicuttini had 13 points and 14 rebounds. Also doing well on the scoresheet were Brian Hyrski, with 11 points and four rebounds, Lamar Barr with 10 points and eight rebounds and Jeff Hunt with 10 points and two boards.
The Mountaineers, now 5-1, hope to fashion their sixth straight victory when they play the Golden Shield again Sunday at 12 p.m. in the Nickel City. Cambrian is 0-6.
