OVERALL MALE: David Velastegui, Sheridan, Men's Indoor Soccer
David Velastegui (Oakville) was named most valuable player of the OCAA men's indoor soccer championship. Sheridan won its first men's indoor soccer title in three seasons, as Velastegui scored the only goal the Bruins needed in a 3-0 win over Humber in the final.
OVERALL FEMALE: Jordan Ariss, Fanshawe, Women's Curling
Jordan Ariss (London) skipped the Fanshawe Falcons to a second straight national title in Edmonton. Coming off a bronze medal at provincials, Ariss and the Falcons lost only once at nationals, while defeating OCAA champion Niagara and silver medalist Confederation handily.
OVERALL FEMALE: Ashley Osorio, Humber, Women's Indoor Soccer
Humber's Ashley Osorio (Toronto) was named most valuable player of the OCAA women's indoor soccer championship. The Humber Hawks won their third consecutive OCAA gold medal, defeating cross-town rival Seneca 2-0 in the gold medal match.

Basketball
Third-year guard Trevor Williams (Toronto) was named a first-team all-star at nationals. In four games, Williams scored 103 points, averaging just over 25 points per game. Sheridan split its four games, losing the bronze medal game in overtime to Langara.
OVERALL FEMALE: Sandre Bascoe, Algonquin, Women's Basketball
Algonquin fourth-year forward Sandre Bascoe (Ottawa) was named a second-team all-star at nationals. In three games, Bascoe contributed 53 points, 35 rebounds, 11 steals, four assists and two blocks. The Thunder lost two of three to finish in fifth/sixth place.

Niagara fifth-year outside hitter Shayne Petrusma (Bowmanville) was named player of the game in Team West's 3-1 win over Team East at the annual OCAA men's volleyball all-star game. The all-Canadian led all players with 10 kills totaling 10 points.
FEMALE: Nina Carino, Humber
Humber fifth-year setter Nina Carino (Scarborough) was named player of the game in Team West's 3-1 win over Team East at the annual OCAA women's volleyball all-star game. She led all players with four serving aces while helping set up 44 total kills for her team.

All-Canadian Frankie Edgecombe (Elmvale) added to his awards collection by being named tournament MVP and a first-team all-star after leading Nipissing to its first national title. Edgecombe totaled 27 kills, six blocks and six aces for 39 points in three matches.

OCAA and national women's player of the year Tracy Wong (Richmond Hill) along with Humber teammate Renee Yip (Markham) won national gold in women's doubles after a three-set victory over their competitors from Douglas College. It is a first national women's doubles title for an OCAA school since 2000, and first gold in any discipline since 2010.

Second-year centre Ryan Ejim (Etobicoke) earned a double-double in Humber's 88-76 win over Loyalist to earn a berth to the OCAA championship. The 6-foot-6 Ejim scored 15 points while grabbing a season-high 12 rebounds. He also added a pair of blocks.
FEMALE: Nikea Worrell, Loyalist
In a one-and-done game at St. Clair, first-year Loyalist forward Nikea Worrell (Cambridge) earned a double-double in leading the Lancers to a 69-65 win and a berth to the OCAA championship. Worrell scored a game-high 20 points while grabbing 10 defensive rebounds.

OVERALL MALE: Tim Chiu, Humber, Badminton
OCAA men's player of the year Tim Chiu won his third OCAA men's singles gold medal in four seasons. Chiu had an unbeaten record in both the regionals and the championship, defeating Georgian's Sean Irvin 21-11, 21-12 in the final. Chiu advances to nationals hosted by Georgian.
OVERALL MALE: Peter Mulders, Fanshawe, Mixed Curling
Peter Mulders (St. Thomas) skipped Fanshawe to its first OCAA mixed curling championship since 1987. Fanshawe had an unblemished record in the round robin with a 6-0 record, and held off Sault in extra ends to win the gold medal match 6-5. Mulders was named a tournament first-team all-star.
OVERALL MALE: D.J. Ronaldson, Fanshawe, Men's Curling
D.J. Ronaldson (Nipigon) skipped Fanshawe to its second OCAA men's curling championship in three seasons. After a 5-3 record in the round robin, Fanshawe won four straight elimination matches to claim the title. Ronaldson was named a tournament second-team all-star.
OVERALL FEMALE: Melissa Borowski, Niagara, Women's Curling
Tournament first-team all-star Melissa Borowski (Welland) was part of a Niagara team that won its first-ever OCAA women's curling title. The Knights needed extra ends in both the semi-final against Fanshawe and final against Confederation to secure the championship.
OVERALL FEMALE: Tracy Wong, Humber, Badminton
Humber's Tracy Wong is a three-time OCAA women's player of the year for good reason. Wong won her third straight OCAA gold medal, going undefeated with partner Renee Yip in women's doubles. Wong won her previous OCAA medals in singles play. Wong and Yip now advance to nationals.

MALE: Alex Campbell, Niagara
Niagara second-year guard Alex Campbell (Brampton) scored a season-high 28 points in an 88-79 overtime victory over the Redeemer. In his previous game, Campbell scored a game-high 17 points in a 95-69 win over Fanshawe. Niagara has won seven of its past eight games.
FEMALE: Felicia Mazerolle, Fanshawe
Fanshawe pulled off a rare feat, winning four games in a span of seven days to clinch the OCAA West title. Third-year point guard Felicia Mazerolle (Elliot Lake) scored 70 points during the week, despite limited opportunity in a 53-27 win over Sault. Overall, Fanshawe has won 12 straight.
VOLLEYBALL
MALE: Derek Quinn, Humber
In his final game at Humber, fifth-year setter Derek Quinn (Mississauga) allocated the ball evenly in a 3-1 victory over Georgian. Humber earned a berth into the OCAA championship with the win. Four Hawks had nine or more kills, a credit to Quinn's distribution of the ball.
FEMALE: Ashley Hosfeld, Fanshawe
Fanshawe second-year left side Ashley Hosfield (Chatham) and her Falcons teammates advanced to the OCAA championship with a 3-1 win over Loyalist. Along with five aces, Hosfield totaled a game-high 18 kills and 23 points in the victory, all season highs.

Sheridan fourth-year guard Jahmal McQueen (Oakville) was key in a pair of victories. McQueen scored a team-high 17 points while grabbing six rebounds in a 71-68 overtime win over Humber. He then earned a double-double with 20 points and 12 boards in a win at Niagara.

Second-year guard Jesa Rada (Ottawa) and the undefeated Algonquin Thunder clinched the OCAA East crown with a pair of road wins over playoff bound teams. Rada contributed a combined 27 points, 12 rebounds, eight assists and eight steals against Loyalist and St. Lawrence.

FEMALE: Curtiss Straatsma, Redeemer
Second-year right side Curtiss Straatsma (Brampton) totaled 53 points in a pair of games. In a near upset of undefeated Humber, Straatsma earned 23 kills, six blocks and one ace in a five-set defeat. She then contributed 18 kills and five blocks in a straight sets win over Mohawk.

Loyalist fourth-year guard Patrick Kalala (Ajax) was instrumental in a pair of road victories, scoring a game-high 23 points in a 76-63 win over Fleming, then contributing a game-high 25 points in a 92-72 victory over George Brown. Kalala is averaging 19.3 points per game.
FEMALE: Kaitlyn McPherson, Niagara
Second-year centre Kaitlyn McPherson (Welland) recorded 19 points and 14 rebounds for a double-double in Niagara's key 75-63 overtime victory over Mohawk. She is averaging 11.8 points and 9.1 rebounds this season. Niagara is in the thick of a playoff race in the OCAA West.

Fourth-year left side Philippe Yeldon (Ottawa) earned a season-high 31 points in Algonquin's straight-sets win over Fleming. Yeldon contributed 21 kills, seven aces and three blocks. Yeldon is currently second among OCAA players averaging 4.9 points per set.
FEMALE: Rebecca van Staalduinen, Trent
Trent fourth-year left side Rebecca van Staalduinen (Peterborough) earned a match-high 10 kills and 15 points in a straight sets win over Loyalist. She is averaging 3.2 points per set. Trent is tied for second place with Cambrian in the OCAA East, with these teams meeting Feb. 2.

Nipissing first-year middle Brittany MacComish (Perth Road) flirted with a single-game OCAA record, recording 10 aces in a straight sets win over Sheridan. The OCAA record is 13. She added three kills for a game-high 13 points. The Lakers have won four straight matches.

Second-year guard Bienka Jones (Tecumseh) drained a game-high 27 points in St. Clair's 80-70 win at Lambton. Jones shot 9-of-17 from the field and 7-of-8 from the free throw line. She also contributed six steals, four assists and four rebounds. The Saints have won five of six.

MALE: Josh Butler, Sheridan
Second-year right side Josh Butler (London) and his teammates came up with a rare sweep in North Bay, defeating Canadore and Nipissing in straight sets. Butler contributed a total of 27 offensive points in six sets, including 23 kills, three blocks and one ace.
FEMALE: Brittany MacComish, Nipissing
Nipissing first-year middle Brittany MacComish (Perth Road) flirted with a single-game OCAA record, recording 10 aces in a straight sets win over Sheridan. The OCAA record is 13. She added three kills for a game-high 13 points. The Lakers have won four straight matches.

Aaron L'ecuyer (Chatham) struck for 20 kills, well above his 2.85 kills per set average, in a four-set victory over defending national champion Humber. The second-year player added 13 digs and two stuff blocks in the upset win that could propel Fanshawe back in the OCAA playoff hunt.

A double-double by second-year forward Mike Lucier (Forest) helped put an end to Lambton's eight game losing streak. Lucier scored 23 points while grabbing 20 rebounds (15 in the defensive zone) in an 83-78 win over Niagara. Lucier also contributed two steals and one assist.
FEMALE: Tamara James-Francis, Centennial
Tamara James-Francis (Toronto) earned a double-double in a key 62-60 win over George Brown. The first-year guard was 8-of-13 from the field scoring 26 points while grabbing 10 rebounds. Centennial and George Brown are tied for the sixth and final playoff spot with 5-5 records.

Third-year player Felix Adjei (Toronto) scored 20 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for a double-double as Seneca defeated Georgian 77-68. Adjei is third OCAA scoring contributing 23.8 points per game. With nine wins, Seneca has surpassed its overall win total of eight in 2011-12.
FEMALE: Jacklyn Rodgerson, St. Lawrence-Kingston
Jacklyn Rodgerson (Odessa) scored 20 points in a 60-51 win over Loyalist, improving St. Lawrence-Kingston's win streak to six games. The second-year guard has been strong beyond the arc, totaling 25 three-pointers. The Vikings have righted the ship after going winless in 2011-12.

FEMALE: Shelby Charlton, Fanshawe
Second-year middle Shelby Charlton (Strathroy) helped lead Fanshawe to an 8-1 record at the December break. In two wins over Canadore and Nipissing, Charlton accumulated 24 kills, five aces and three blocks, totaling 32 points. Fanshawe sits in second place in the West region.

Georgian golfer Colton Kalkanis (Hillsdale) became the first-ever OCAA men's individual champion to win the national title in the same year. Kalkanis shot a one-under 71 in the final round to card a three-day total of 217 for a one-stroke victory. He had an average score of 72 in each of his six rounds at provincials and nationals.
OVERALL MALE: Clint Smith, Fanshawe, Men's Cross Country
There was no silver lining this time in Clint Smith's (Bridgen) 8 km race at the OCAA Cross Country Championships. Smith easily won his first OCAA men's individual title in a time of 24:53.2. Smith finished runner-up in each of the last two OCAA championships.

Durham's Tiffany Albath (Bad Marienberg, Germany) shot a tournament-best 74 in the final round of the 2012 OCAA Golf Championships, winning her second straight women's individual title by 12 strokes. Albath becomes just the third OCAA women's golfer to repeat, and the fifth to win three individual medals.

First-year player Yetunde Kolusade (Brampton)
had an OCAA debut to remember, scoring three tries to lead her
Seneca Sting to a 19-11 win over Sheridan. Her 15 points led all
players, and puts her in a tie for the league scoring lead through
the opening week of the regular season.
WOMEN'S FASTBALL
Tori Taylor, Conestoga
First-year shortstop Tori Taylor (Kitchener) is
tearing the cover off the ball with three straight two-hit games to
open her OCAA career. She also scored four times, and drove in a
pair as Conestoga won two of its first three games. Taylor boasts a
.667 batting average to match her team's winning percentage.
RUGBY
MALE: Evan Vance, Loyalist
First-year player Evan Vance (Corbyville)
scored in every possible way in Loyalist's 41-7 win over Fleming.
Vance earned a try, booted four converts and added a penalty kick
for good measure, totaling 16 points. It marked the first victory
by a former Division II team over a D-I program as the OCAA adopts
a single structure for 2012.

MALE: E.J. Powell, Centennial
Reigning OCAA all-star E.J. Powell (Scarborough)
scored both goals in Centennial's 2-0 victory over Seneca. Powell
is now on a two-game goal streak, also scoring in Centennial's
opening win of the season. With its 2-0-0 record, the Colts are a
win away from matching last year's win total (3-3-1).
FEMALE: Sara Kox, St. Clair
Fifth-year defender Sara Kox (Denfield) excelled on both ends of the pitch as the St. Clair Saints earned consecutive shutout victories over Redeemer and Niagara. Kox scored in each match, and leads a defensive unit that hasn't allowed a goal in three regular season games.

pair of goals, his first two in the OCAA, in Conestoga's 5-2
victory over St. Clair, a rematch of the 2011 OCAA bronze medal
match. The Condors have now won five straight regular season
matches dating back to last season.

Fourth-year player Victoria Smith (Ottawa) scored
the game-winning goal in La Cité's 2-1 road win at Cambrian.
With the game knotted at 1-1, Smith broke the deadlock in the 76th
minute, ultimately giving the Coyotes the victory. La Cité
had just one road victory in 2011 at it looks to improve on last
season's 2-2-3 record.
