FANSHAWE'S SEASON ENDS AT MEN'S BASKETBALL PROVINCIALS

BRAMPTON, Ont. - The Fanshawe men's basketball team finished their season this past weekend at the OCAA provincial championship at Sheridan College in Brampton, Ont. The Falcons had a winning season finishing in fifth place in the OCAA West Division regular season standings.

On Wednesday night, the team attended the OCAA championship banquet where two members of the team were honoured for their play this season. Veteran shooting guard Chavaun Miller-Bennett was named an OCAA second-team all-star, while point guard Alex Thompson was named to the OCAA all-rookie team.

On Thursday night, the Falcons faced the Mohawk Mountaineers in the OCAA quarter-finals. Fanshawe started out on the right foot and had an 11-10 lead before Mohawk finished the quarter on a 9-1 run to take the lead into the second. Fanshawe would battle back and even take a 28-27 lead until Mohawk replied with another big run, this time 11-2, giving the Mountaineers a 38-30 lead at the half.

Mohawk pulled away in the second half of the game and won 99-52. Fanshawe would move into the bronze quarter-final game on Friday afternoon.

On Friday, Fanshawe came out firing against George Brown but the Huskies slowly passed the Falcons and led by seven at the end of the first quarter. The Huskies slowly increased their lead and heading to the fourth quarter, Fanshawe found themselves down by 21. The Falcons made a run in the fourth but it wasn't enough, falling to the Huskies 80-70.
