DURHAM 82, GEORGE BROWN 73

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College men's basketball team defeated George Brown College 82-73 to earn their first OCAA victory of the new year Tuesday night at the CRWC.

The first half saw both teams square off in what appeared to be a very even matchup, but Durham would break away carrying a nine point lead into half. However, in the third quarter CCAA leading scorer Vladim Halimov heated up and helped lift George Brown into the lead outscoring Durham 25-13 in the quarter. Halimov finished the game with 33 points and 15 rebounds.

Trailing by three points heading into the fourth quarter, the Lords were able to recapture momentum and their lead. Down the stretch, Adrian Burton (Oshawa, Ont.) helped secure the victory for the Lords as he completed two consecutive big plays and recovered several timely rebounds in the waning moments of the game.

Exceptional games were also had by Saliym Cadogan (Toronto, Ont.) who contributed 20 points and four rebounds which included two big three pointers in the final 10 minutes. Former OCAA player of the year Eric Smith (Ajax, Ont.) recorded 20 points and four rebounds.

The loss puts an end to George Brown's five game winning streak as they fall to 8-3 on the year. Durham improves to 4-7 and are now just two points out of a playoff position.

The Lords will next welcome Georgian College to the CRWC Friday, Jan. 10 with tip-off set for 8 p.m.
