MOHAWK 3, NIAGARA 2

HAMILTON, Ont. - The Niagara Knights downed the Mohawk Mountaineers 25-18, 25-21 and 25-14 in OCAA women's volleyball Friday at Mohawk. But the big winner was Mohawk's Charlotte Huitema, who was substituted into two games to serve. Charlotte returned to the court more than 12 months after a severe car accident and three weeks in a medically-induced coma.

Alexandria Pulham led Mohawk with with five kills, one service ace, one stuff block and six digs. Kirsten Bialachowski had five kills, one ace, one block and five digs. Kristin VanHartingsveldt produced four kills and one stuff block.

For Niagara, Madison Morgan had 11 kills, and one block. Lucy McLay also had 11 kills to go with one block and one ace, Alexandria Botelho notched eight kills and four blocks and Devon Lowes contributed six kills, two aces and four blocks.

With the result, the Knights improved to 13-3, while the Mountaineers dropped to 4-12.

The Mohawk men, the third-ranked team in Canada, had their hands full but won a five setter against Niagara, 18-25, 25-22, 25-16, 28-30, 17-15. The Mountaineers upped their record to 15-1 and won their 10th straight match. The Knights fell to 10-6, as they had a five-match win string snapped.

Adam Schiedel had 14 kills, one ace and four blocked shots. Bryce Marcussen also had 14 kills and two blocks and Trevor McLaughlin contributed 13 kills and four aces. Mark Kaveckas had 49 assists and five aces.

For Niagara, Nathan Snippe led the way with 16 kills. Cole Jordan came up with 12 kills and an ace, Aaron Vanderlugt had 11 kills and one ace and Steve Stone notched one kill, four aces, 10 digs and 46 assists.
