ST. LAWRENCE 75, FLEMING 65

KINGSTON, Ont. - The St. Lawrence Vikings basketball team hosted the Fleming College Knights on Wednesday November 21 for regular season action. Both teams entered the game with six points and a 3-2 record, trying to catch up to the 6-0 Algonquin College Thunder.

It was clear that both the Knights and Vikings were playing a patient game, with few risks being taken to open up the game. The teams played tight defence, forcing several turnovers and travelling calls to be made. St. Lawrence would lead 16-12 after the first 10 minutes.

In the second quarter, the Vikings began to move the ball around much quicker and it paid off as the jumped to a 41-27 lead at the half. It was a more balanced attack in the first half with Jackie Rodgerson scoring 14 points, and point guard Haley Gourdier scoring eight points.

Fleming College would start the second quarter scoring 10 straight points and eventually tie the game at 44. Despite Fleming outscoring St. Lawrence 24-19 in the quarter, the Vikings never panicked and kept control of the game.

The fourth quarter featured more great basketball by both teams, with St. Lawrence outscoring the opposition 19-14. In the end the Vikings held strong for the 75-65 win, and remain undefeated at home, winning three straight. Vikings Jackie Rodgerson led the team with 25 points and five rebounds, and Katie Chapman scored 19 points with 12 rebounds.

The Vikings are now 4-2, and have moved into fourth place in the East Division. The team's next game takes place at home on Friday, November 30 against the George Brown Huskies at 6 p.m.
