Leroy Cassanova played a key role, alongside OCAA Hall of Fame coach Wayne Allison, in laying the foundation for the Sheridan College basketball program.

He is the school's seventh leading scorer all-time with 838 career points in 56 OCAA league games (15.0 PPG) and the first Bruin to be honoured as a CCAA All-Canadian. He is a two-time OCAA First-Team All-Star and former OCAA Championship All-Star.

In his senior season (1982-83) he helped guide the Bruins to uncharted waters - their first trip to the OCAA championship game and first time playing for a national medal (bronze).

A graduate of Sheridan’s Business Administration program upon the completion of his playing career, Cassanova joined the Bruins coaching staff as an assistant and has been there ever since.

During his tenure, the Bruins have won 10 OCAA titles (1985, 1986, 1989, 1990, 1998, 1999, 2001, 2002, 2008, 2013), two national titles (1985, 1990) while playing in the national championship game on three other occasions (1986, 2001, 2006).
