While employed as Athletic Director at Seneca College, Ernie Armstrong found time to contribute to the OCAA at both the Executive Committee level and as a Convenor.

Armstrong served on the Executive Committee from 1989-90 to 1990-91 taking on the role of Vice President and Chair of Membership and Scholarships. During this time he helped build the criteria for academic scholarships.

His fondness for the sport led him to the Convenor's role in men's basketball for the 1992-93 and 1993-94 seasons. Armstrong also coached men's basketball at Seneca and volunteered the college to host the 1992 CCAA men's and women's basketball championships.

As host, Seneca was to receive an automatic berth in the championships, but Armstrong declined, insisting that the team earn its spot, which it did.
