Theresa Carriere began an impressive three-year collegiate career in 1983 for the Fanshawe Falcon's women's basketball team. During her three seasons, Carriere led the Falcons to two back-to-back provincial championships in 1983-84 and 1984-85 and a silver medal finish in 1985-86. For her performance, she was awarded tournament MVP all three seasons.
In 1984-85, the Falcons finished fourth at the CCAA national championship, and Carriere was named to the CCAA tournament all-star team, a feat never before achieved by an Ontario athlete.
During her three seasons, Carriere was also named as an OCAA league all-star three times, and in 1985-86 she was recognized as a CCAA all-Canadian. She was twice named the Fanshawe Female Athlete of the Year in 1984-85 and 1985-86.
In 2000, Carriere was honoured as a member of the OCAA women's basketball all-millennium team. Carriere continued her basketball career at Fanshawe College serving as an assistant and then head coach of the women's basketball team from 1986-1992.
