Wes Hicks' involvement in the OCAA goes back to the formative years of the association. In 1969-70 Hicks took on the duties of Men's Basketball Convenor, a position he held for two seasons.

The following two seasons he moved to the Executive Committee where he was Vice President while also serving as Cross Country Convenor. He also took on the Cross Country running Convenor duties in 1978-79 and then Tennis in 1979-80. In 1981-82, Hicks returned to the Executive Committee as Vice President and Chair of the Ways and Means Committee.

Hicks was employed in various positions at Mohawk College including Athletic Director, and at one time was their very successful men's basketball coach for 10 years. Mohawk College won four OCAA championships in the first five years of men's basketball in the OCAA with Wes as the coach.
