Mike Pluimers was a standout on the Fleming-Peterborough men's volleyball team, leading the Knights to the playoffs in each of his two seasons.

In the 1997-98 season, Pluimers led his team to a silver medal finish at the OCAA championship. He was honoured as the championship MVP and named to the championship all-star team. In addition, Pluimers was an OCAA East region all-star in both of the years in which he competed, and a CCAA all-academic in the 1997-98 season.

Pluimers stayed on at Fleming College, coaching the men's and women's volleyball teams from 1998 to 2000.

In 2000, Mike Pluimers was named to the OCAA All-Millennium Men's Volleyball Team.
