GEORGIAN 79, CANADORE 65

BARRIE, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzlies men's basketball team defended their home court in style Sunday afternoon at the Georgian College Athletic in Barrie against the Canadore Panthers.

The Grizzlies were able to get up early and played a solid first half which saw them take a 37-27 lead into halftime.

Georgian wasn't satisfied with the 10-point cushion and came out scoring in the second half eventually earning their biggest lead of the game by 25 points late in the third quarter. The Grizzlies never looked back cruising to a 79-65 victory.

Justin Mitchell (Newmarket) had a terrific game scoring 22 points, including six 3-pointers to lead the team to their second straight win.

Freshman Teq Zwarych (Whitby) continues to impress as he had a career-high 20 rebounds along with seven points and three blocks in just under 30 minutes of play.

With a 4-2 record on the season the Grizzlies find themselves in a tie for fourth place in the OCAA East Division standings with the Seneca Sting who Georgian will face in their next game Tuesday night in North York.

The Grizzlies will return home when they host the Loyalist Lancers next Friday night at 8 p.m. at the Georgian Athletic Centre.

BARRIE, Ont. - The Canadore Panthers men's varsity basketball team played their second away game in two days and fell short to the Georgian Grizzlies today at the Barrie campus.

Canadore's top scorer was Tarik Salim with 13 points.

Despite winning their first two regular season games, the Panthers have been unable to collect another win since then, losing five straight games in OCAA regular season action. They are currently sitting in eighth position in the East Division, right behind Loyalist College, who they play next weekend.

Canadore head coach Stacy Gallagher was very optimistic about how his team performed today. "We had great play off the bench. Tarik (Salim), Jerome (Wynters), and Xavior (Farquharson) gave us some great minutes. They worked hard on defence and offence. We fell short on the boards because we couldn't get our transition game going."
