SENECA 109, FLEMING 56

NORTH YORK, Ont. - With high expectations entering the 2013-14 season, the Seneca Sting men's basketball team more than lived up to the hype in their home opener. The Sting used a combination of great ball movement, precise shooting and a highlight put-back dunk by Felix Adjei (Toronto) to roll to a 109-56 victory over the Fleming Knights.

With a near-packed house, the Sting looked to entertain the fans from the outset. Calmar Morgan (Scarborough), the 2012-13 OCAA East rookie of the year, opened the home season with a three-pointer just seconds after the opening tip.

The Sting appeared to build off of the momentum from that shot along with the noise of the crowd, taking a 22-12 advantage into the first break. Morgan scored eight for the Sting in the quarter.

Seneca took over the game in the second quarter with a dominating performance.  The combination of Morgan and Adjei was too much for the Knights to handle as the duo combined for 16 points in the second frame, including four 3-pointers. At the half, Morgan had 15 points while Adjei added 13 as the Sting doubled up the Knights 50-25.

Fleming's Daniel Gordon did his part to help keep the game respectable, scoring eight points in the third, but it was emergence of first-year Sting Malcolm Smith (Toronto) and Jordan Kelly (Winnipeg) who put any thoughts of a Knights comeback to rest.

The Sting exploded for 37 points in the fourth quarter as Shakyl Cooper (Montreal) and Yirenchi Dodi (Toronto) made contributions off of the bench. Cooper's seven points came in just 3:04 of playing time.

Adjei finished with a game-high 24 points on 7-of-13 shooting along with six rebounds and seven assists. Morgan added 21 points while Smith finished with 15 for the Sting.

Gordan was the top scorer for the Knights with 14 points on 7-of-12 shooting from the floor.

The Sting will host the Loyalist Lancers on Friday at 8 p.m. in the Newnham Gym while the Knights return home for a game against St. Lawrence on Saturday at 3 p.m.
