DURHAM 3, LA CITE 2

OTTAWA – The Durham College men's volleyball team picked up two wins over the weekend to improve to 5-0 to start the regular season. The Lords also saw a move in the provincial rankings on Monday as they jumped into the third spot on the OCAA charts.

The Lords first win of the weekend came against Algonquin College in the Thunder's home opener. The battled hard as they would trade the first four sets by scores of 20-25, 26-24, 17-25, and 25-20. In the fifth and deciding set, Durham managed to spoil the Thunders' party, pulling out the victory winning by a score of 15-10.

Craig Lush and Brad VanHartingsveldt led the team with 17 and 15 points respectively. Dan Popovic came up big on the defensive end with nine digs.

In game two, the Lords came up with another five set victory, this time beating La Cite 3-2. After falling behind 2-0 (23-25, 20-25), Durham stormed back with three straight set victories (25-15, 25-17, 15-11) to keep their perfect record intact.

Craig Lush once again led Durham in scoring as he recorded 15 kills, six blocks and one ace. Popovic had a team high 10 digs in the win, as he contained La Cite's top scorers in key moments of the game. The dynamic duo of Keith Marier and Cederic Crete from La Cite are first and third in league scoring this season.

Lush is having a breakout year for Durham as he seventh in league scoring averaging 4.3 points per game.

Durham is the only undefeated team left in the OCAA as they sport a perfect 5-0 record. The Lords have yet to face Seneca (5-1) who are in second place in the conference.

The Lords will be back in Oshawa this weekend as they host the Cambrian Golden Shield (Saturday night) and the Boreal Viperes (Sunday afternoon).
