LOYALIST 3, DURHAM 0

BELLEVILLE, Ont. - It was a big upset in OCAA men's volleyball on Friday night as the first place Durham Lords were beat 3-0 by the Loyalist Lancers.

It looked like a mismatch on paper heading into the game as Durham sat atop of the OCAA east region standings with an 11-1 record while Loyalist was in the middle of the pack at 6-6. However, Loyalist managed to pull out three tight sets on Friday winning by scores of 25-21, 25-23 and 25-23.

Jared Moelker and Josh Lappala of Loyalist managed to find holes in the Lords defence scoring 16 and 13 points respectively. In their previous match-up against Durham in December, no Lancer scored more than five points in a 3-0 loss.

Despite the loss, Durham's Craig Lush was a force up the middle scoring a game-high 17 points. The Port Perry native was the only Lord to reach double-digits in scoring.

Matty Subbramaniam led Durham in the defensive end with 15 digs.

Lords captain Steve Clarey registered his 500th career kill as he had five in the loss.

Durham is 11-2 on the year, a half game behind Seneca (11-1) for first place. The two teams will meet up at the CRWC on Thursday, January 24 in a battle for first place. First serve is approximately 8 p.m. following the women's game.
