LONDON, Ont. - The Fanshawe Falcons women's basketball team defeated the Lambton Lions (3-8) on Sunday morning by a final score of 81-40. Fanshawe is in third place in the OCAA west division standings with a record of 9-3.
Lambton jumped up out to a 10-0 lead after less than three minutes into the game. Ali Vlasman broke the scoreless drought for Fanshawe, knocking down a mid-range jumper for the Falcons. Fanshawe stepped up the defence with their full court press and slowly chipped away at the lead. The Falcons finished the quarter on a 12-4 run, taking a 14-12 lead into the second quarter.
Fanshawe continued to play tenacious defence in the second, but their offence also exploded. The Falcons put up 30 points in the quarter and took a commanding 44-23 lead into the half. Alicia Racine and Vlasman scored eight points apiece for the Falcons in the half.
Fanshawe put the game out of reach early in the third, leading by as many as 34 points. Fanshawe held the Lions to just four points in the third and led 61-27 with one quarter to play. All 14 players scored for the Falcons, as they went on to win by a final score of 81-40.
Next Saturday, the Falcons are back at the Glenn Johnston Athletic Centre to take on the Niagara Knights (5-6). The game starts at 5 p.m.
