MOHAWK 74, SHERIDAN 63

HAMILTON, Ont. - It was a good night for the Mohawk basketball teams at the David Braley Athletic and Recreation Centre Friday as they took both ends of their doubleheader with the Sheridan Bruins.

The men's team upped it's mark to 15-2 with a 110-82 decision over the visitors, now 7-10.

Matt Fennell scored 31 points and added seven rebounds. Matt Savel had 22 points and seven assists. Andrew Cicuttini scored 17 points and had 15 boards and Lamar Barr had 14 points and five assists including a personal 8-0 run in the third quarter for the Mountaineers, who trailed 43-42 at halftime.

Mohawk has now won 12 straight and will have a first place showdown with Humber at the DBARC Friday, Feb. 20. The Hawks are 16-1 and two points ahead of the Mountaineers.

And the Mountaineer women keep rolling along. They made it 16 wins in a row, as they topped Sheridan 74-63. The Bruins slipped to 9-8.

Jen Jen Abella had 23 points and eight assists to lead the Mountaineers. Stef Hrymak had 14 and Brittany Gazzola added eight points. A real spark off the bench for Mohawk came from Careena Browne who had six points, six rebounds and four steals in the second half.

Like the men, the Mountaineer women will battle Humber for top spot Feb. 20 at Mohawk. The teams have identical 16-1 records.
