DURHAM 12, HUMBER 2

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College baseball team earned a big win over Humber College on Thursday night as they defeated the Hawks 12-2 in five innings.

With two games remaining in their regular season, Durham (10-8) sits one game behind the Fanshawe Falcons (10-6) for third place in the OCAA standings. The two teams will square off on Saturday for a doubleheader at Kinsmen Civic Memorial Stadium beginning at 2 p.m. Fanshawe will wrap up their regular season on Tuesday with a doubleheader against the second place Hawks (12-6).

The Lords got off to a great start in their game on Thursday as they scored eight runs in the first three innings, including putting four on the scoreboard in the second. After Humber came back with two runs in the top of the fourth, Durham's offence continued to fire on all cylinders in the bottom half of the inning with four more runs scored.

Michael Chilvers (Sutton West, Ont.) led the Lords offence with three hits and a walk, as he drove in four runs and scored two of his own. Catcher Jack Lang (Pickering, Ont.) also had a hot bat as he went 2-for-3 with two runs scored.

Making only his second conference start of the season, Thomas Fearon (Ajax, Ont.) limited Humber to just three hits and two runs over five innings of work. Fearon struck out eight Humber batters, silencing the bats of the second most efficient offence in the OCAA.

The Lords have now won seven of their past eight games.

Durham is set to host St. Clair, Humber and Fanshawe at the OCAA final four championship that is scheduled to take place in Oshawa, Ont., from Oct. 17-18.
