DURHAM'S COTE HEADLINES OCAA MEN'S BASEBALL AWARDS

TORONTO - Durham College's Cole Cote (Welland, Ont.) is the 2023 Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) Men's Baseball Player of the Year.

The third-year outfielder/catcher was among the league leaders in most offensive categories, setting new OCAA single season records with 34 hits and 37 RBI. Cote also scored 30 times, had a slash line of .567/.623/.900, and led all OCAA players with 54 total bases. Eleven of Cote's hits were of the extra base variety with five doubles, three triples and three home runs. Cote also headlines the OCAA League First-Team All-Stars.

Tyler Brown-Amlin (Windsor, Ont.) of St. Clair College is the OCAA Rookie of the Year. The outfielder/pitcher was a duel threat for the Saints, with a slash line of .353/.421/.500 at the plate and a 2.58 ERA on the mound. Brown-Amlin scored 10 runs and stole four bases and struck out 24 batters in 19 innings of work. Brown-Amlin is also an OCAA League First-Team All-Star and headlines the OCAA All-Rookie Team.

Roberto Duncan of St. Clair is the OCAA Coach of the Year. Under Duncan's leadership, the Saints won the regular season championship with a 16-2 record, allowing a league-low 57 runs against and a 2.63 team ERA. Offensively, the Saints were second in the league with 149 runs scored.

Durham's Nick King (Whitby, Ont.) is the OCAA Pitcher of the Year. The second-year right hander had a 5-1 record with a league-best 52 strikeouts in 32 2/3 innings of work. King had a 1.50 ERA and a .161 batting average against. King tied a single-game OCAA record with 16 strikeouts in a game against the Seneca Sting on Sept. 27. King is also an OCAA League First-Team All-Star.

Henry Real (Panama) of St. Clair is the OCAA Batting Champion. The third-year catcher had a slash line of .578/.611/.622 going 26-for-45 in 18 games. Real's batting average is an all-time high for an OCAA single season. Real is also an OCAA League Second-Team All-Star.

Joining Cote, Brown-Amlin and King as OCAA League First-Team All-Stars are Jacob Mahoney (Toronto), Ryan Mattes (Whitby) and Zach Rivers (Oshawa) of Durham; Nick Manoukarakis (Toronto) of George Brown College; Justin Groves (Peterborough) and Aidan Murphy (Brampton) of Humber College; and Mitch McCosh (Belle River) and Carter Reh (Harrow) of St. Clair.

Along with Real, OCAA League Second-Team All-Stars include Riley Briggs (Whitby) and Liam Oates (Brampton) of Centennial College; Griffin McMillan (Bowmanville) of Durham; Jamie Chopping-Lawlor (Cambridge) and Riley Wheeler (Shelburne) of Fanshawe College; David Boatto (Vaughan) and Hudson Lockwood (Burlington) of Humber; Logan Buntrock (Sarnia) of Lambton College; and Hunter Appleyard (LaSalle), Cody Moore (LaSalle) and Colin Robinson (Windsor) of St. Clair.

In addition to Brown-Amlin, members of the OCAA All-Rookie team include Durham's Rivers, Fanshawe's Wheeler, Lambton's Buntrock and St. Clair's McCosh.
