SPECIAL NIGHT PLANNED FOR RECORD-SETTING DURHAM WOMEN'S FASTBALL

The Department of Athletics at Durham College & UOIT is excited to announce that a special night this Friday, September 15 will be held to celebrate the incredible record setting 56 game conference win streak by the Durham College Women's fastball program in OCAA women's fastball.

"We will be organizing and celebrating a special night at our DC Varsity WFB 2006-07 Home opener on September 15th, stated Athletic Director Ken Babcock. We will be inviting back every player (and coaching staff of course) that was a part of the magnificent 56 game (4 year) record setting OCAA conference winning streak!" Now affectionately to be known as "THE STREAK".

The agenda for the evening will include: An introduction of all team members, coaches, and a presentation of an official "THE STREAK" keepsake. Durham College President Leah Myers and Student Association Vice President Travis Dutka will throw the first pitch. Wendy Cathcart, the Executive Director from Softball Ontario will also be in attendance. The first 200 fans in will receive an official "STREAK" souvenir. We will be unveiling a specially designed banner sign recognizing the 56 Game win streak that will be mounted on the outfield fence permanently. And of course the big OCAA home opener game against Cambrian College at 6:30pm. There will be a post game social at Winston Shagwell’s on the Ridge located at the Campus Ice Centre. All players, parents, coaches and fans are welcome to the post social.

The Durham College women’s fastball team entered the 2005-06 OCAA Collegiate fastball season as defending 3-time Ontario Champions and the owners of a monster 43 game conference winning streak. That streak continued with this years women’s fastball team as they went undefeated again in league play (12-0) and captured the regular season pennant for the 9th straight year. They then opened the Championships, looking for their unprecedented 4th straight OCAA Championship crown, with a solid 8-4 win over Canadore College. That win pushed the streak to 56 in a row. Then on to the Gold medal game!

However a determined St. Clair College ended DC’s hopes of a 4th straight title in the Gold medal game, beating the Lords 7-2. Coach Nemish and the 12-time OCAA Champions had not lost an OCAA Conference or play-off game since September 13th, 2002, where they dropped a 7-3 decision to Canadore College. The very next day the Lords defeated Canadore College 3-0 to start an amazing record win streak. This record streak continued into its 4th season and included 3 consecutive OCAA Gold Medals and an OCAA Silver Medal this season.

A highly talented roster of student-athletes have worn the Green & Gold during this streak and are responsible along with Head Coach Jim Nemish and Assistants Mal Swift and Rosemary Theriault. The amazing streak that spanned an unthinkable four years has seen the following team members involved. See attached for team DC team rosters during the streak. This streak is simply an amazing story! Simply amazing!
