ACTON HEADS NEW HUMBER WOMEN'S FASTBALL TEAM

TORONTO – Humber College is pleased to announce the hiring of Bob Acton as the Manager of the new varsity women’s fastball program.

Bob brings over 35 years of baseball and softball experience to Humber. A graduate of Glendale College in Arizona, Bob is a former top ranked catcher, who is known for his innovative aggressive approach to the game.

He has won two national softball championships and over forty of his former players have received softball and baseball scholarships in the NCAA’S. He has coached softball teams to 23 tournament championships in North America.

He is currently the Director of Operations for the locally based Beach Sport Academy, a certified Youth Conditioning Specialist, Sports Nutritionist and Personal Trainer. He will travel to Germany this summer, to work as a Power Skating coach, for the German Hockey Federation.

Bob has worked as a sport consultant on 32 major motion and made for television productions.

“He would not let our team go into a competition without knowing that we were fully prepared”, said Jenna Caira, a former player now attending of Syracuse University on a full scholarship. “He always stressed to never give up and to push until the end of that final inning. His determination and passion for the game of Softball is what separated him from the rest.”

“Initiating a new program always comes with a certain amount of excitement and also with a bit of a fear factor as to how the team will compete so early in its existence,” said Humber Athletic Director Doug Fox, “But with Bob at the helm, I am confident that the team will progress quickly as he has both a passion and vast knowledge of the game.”

The Humber Hawks will compete in the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association, with the season kicking off in the fall of 2011. With the addition of Humber the league will now consist of six teams, including St. Clair (Windsor), Conestoga (Kitchener), Mohawk (Hamilton), Seneca (Toronto) and Durham (Oshawa).
