ONE AND DONE TIME IN OCAA WOMEN’S FASTBALL

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - The Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) women's fastball regular season came to a close on the weekend, with the top three teams earning a trip to the OCAA Women's Fastball Championship, beginning this Friday at Durham College in Oshawa, Ont.

With Durham (8-0), St. Clair (7-1) and Seneca (6-4) already punching their tickets to the championship, only one invite remains into the four-team double-elimination tournament. Fourth place Humber (5-5) hosts fifth place Conestoga (1-9) on Tuesday in the OCAA qualifying game.

No matter what the outcome on Tuesday is, the season can be deemed a success for Humber. In its first season in OCAA women's fastball, Humber has won five of its last six games to ensure it has a shot of playing into the championship tournament. All of Humber's losses have come against teams that finished ahead of it in the standings.

Leading the way for Humber offensively is Quinn Hall with a team-high 14 hits in 30 plate appearances for a .467 batting average. Shelby Robblee has driven in 12 runs, batting .481. Jessica O'Quinn is a double threat for the Hawks, striking out 18 with a 2.90 ERA, while contributing six runs and six RBI with a .308 batting average.

For Conestoga, Tuesday's play-in game marks an opportunity to erase a six-game losing streak, and to create some positive momentum heading into the championship tournament.

Katelyn Tilley and Brandy Hillar lead Conestoga with 15 hits each, resulting in batting averages of .484 and .469, respectively. Another Condor who has been strong at the plate is Chelsea Patrizio with her .361 average. Pitcher Brooke Brenneman leads Conestoga in strikeouts with 12.

Humber swept the two-game doubleheader against Conestoga on Oct. 5 winning 6-5 and 7-2. Conestoga's lone win of the season came against Mohawk (1-9) on Sept. 27. By winning the run differential in the season series split, Conestoga earns the right to play against Humber.

First pitch of this sudden death game goes at 7 p.m. at Tom Chater Park in Mississauga, Ont. The winner advances as the fourth seed to the OCAA Women's Fastball Championship hosted by Durham College this Friday and Saturday.
