HUMBER 10, SENECA 0

HUMBER 10, SENECA 0

MISSISSAUGA, Ont. - In their first double-header of the season, the Humber Hawks mercied the Seneca Sting not once but twice. The Hawks offence was on major display taking the first game 10-0 in five innings and downing the finale in six innings winning by 11-1.

Seneca had a monster hit to the fence but centre fielder Sydney Bartha extinguished any early Sting momentum by relaying to short stop Jacqueline O'Quinn and throwing the runner out and preventing a Seneca triple in the first inning. Starting pitcher Jessica O'Quinn sent the Sting down in order to start Humber's hitting brigade.

Second base Shawna Niskanen led off with a double, followed by Jacqueline O'Quinn slap and a hit by pitch on Bartha. All girls would later score off the bat of third base Olivia Crossley and make the score 3-0.

O'Quinn had some help from the outfield on two easy pop flies and a sliding catch by Bartha to end the half inning. The Hawks still had some unfinished business.

Seven runs would score in the second inning, five in a row that Seneca could not handle. Niskanen added another double and right fielder Kelsey Bardy knocked a triple to highlight the Hawk's dominance.

After taking the final out, the Hawks won 10-0 with Player of the Game honours going to Niskanen who batted 1.000 and scored twice. Jessica O'Quinn took the win, only allowing two hits and no earned runs or walks. Jacqueline O'Quinn pitched three innings of relief allowing four hits and three strike outs to keep the shutout.

After a brief break the Hawks picked up from where they left off and lit the Sting up. Six runs were scored in the first inning alone and starting pitcher Jessica O'Quinn asserted her dominance once again.

Seneca loaded the bases with two outs but designated hitter Hillary Redrup stayed composed and hit a single to keep a two out rally alive after the Hawks had already put up four runs on the board.

The Sting could not string any hits together until the third inning, leading to their only run of the series. The rest of the game was shut down by short stop, turned reliever, Jacqueline O'Quinn.

Humber took the second game 11-1, and Bartha was rewarded as the Player of Game after contributing two runs, two hits and two RBIs. Jessica O'Quinn pitched four innings, allowing one earned run, five hits and a strike out, while Jaqueline pitched one inning relief with no hits or walks.

The Hawks next game will be a rematch against Seneca on Friday, Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
