HAMILTON, Ont. - The Mohawk women's fastball team is still
looking for it's first win of the OCAA season after dropping a pair
of games to the Conestoga Condors at Mohawk Sports Park Friday
(Sept. 13).
The visitors from Kitchener broke open a close opening game with a
seven run seventh inning, for a 14-6 victory. Tori
Taylor went 4-for-5 with a home run for the Condors, as
Olivia Butler beat Niki
Grover.
Stephanie Duffin was 3-for-4 with a homer for the
Mountaineers, while Stephanie Ferretti,
Nicole Leitch and Lindsey Rivet
also had two hits each.
In the nightcap, Conestoga got all their runs in the first three
innings in an 8-0 victory and doubleheader sweep.
Taylor went 2-for-4, including her second home run of the night.
Lauren Ruf picked up the win for the Condors,
while Laura Chappel was tagged with the defeat for
Mohawk. Jennifer VanDyk and Becky
Rabchuk each had a pair of hits for the Mountaineers.
Mohawk head coach Brian Weller said his club is
going to have to correct some sloppy play. He also noted unlike
last year, the current edition of the team is getting hits. But
while they had a total of 21 hits in the twin bill, they also left
16 runners on base.
So while Conestoga improved it's record to 2-1, Mohawk slipped to
0-3. The Mountaineers have another doubleheader Tuesday (Sept. 17)
when they visit the Seneca Sting, with the first pitch scheduled
for 6 p.m.
