HAMILTON, Ont. - The beat goes on for the St. Clair women's fastball team and their star pitcher Alexa Georgiou. Mohawk got a double dose of them Wednesday (Oct. 2) at Mohawk Sports Park.

The Saints improved their perfect record to 11-0, with a doubleheader sweep, 22-5 and 16-1 over the Mountaineers (0-11).

Georgiou, who recently won OCAA women's fastball Player of the Week honours, was the winning pitcher in each game.

She did give up two homers in the first game - a grand slam to Nicole Leitch and a solo shot to Steph Duffin, but she was helped by Kallie Desjarlais driving in three runs for St. Clair. Laura Chappel was the losing pitcher.

In the nightcap the same two pitchers figured in the same decisions and Georgiou helped herself offensively, hitting a grand slam and scoring twice.

Despite a miserable night on the diamond, there was a very positive note off it for the Mountaineers, who raised $361 in a fundraiser for the Camp Trillium Foundation. The money will go to the Foundation Camp in Waterford. It's a retreat for children with cancer and their families.

The idea came from Mohawk player Lindsey Rivet with help from former Mountaineer teammate Emma Lisson. Mohawk players wore pink uniforms. The shirts and socks were donated by 'On The Go Sales' and Mountaineer head coach Brian Weller purchased pink ball caps.

Bob and Cathy Rivet donated all the tickets that were used for raffle prizes and a 50-50 draw and several area sponsors contributed to the cause.
