CONESTOGA 14, FANSHAWE 4

KITCHENER, Ont. - The Fanshawe Falcons women's softball team had a busy week, finishing with a record of 1-5. The Falcons sit in fourth place in the OCAA softball standings.

On Tuesday, Sept. 10, Fanshawe had a tough set of games on the road versus the Conestoga Condors (4-1), losing 14-4 and 14-0. Fanshawe's Ashley Long did manage to finish the trip 4-for-5 with two runs and three RBI.

On Saturday, Fanshawe hosted their home opener versus the Durham Lords (2-2). The Lords won both games with scores of 4-2 and 11-0. Carlene Clapperton finished the day 3-for-6 with two RBI.

On Sunday, the OCAA leading Humber Hawks (5-2) came to town. In the first game, Fanshawe was down 4-0 in the sixth inning before Kady Hawkins hit a triple into right field to spark a comeback. Fanshawe followed her triple up with four consecutive singles and the Falcons tied the game.

After a scoreless seventh, the game went to extra innings, where Fanshawe scored the go-ahead run in dramatic fashion with a collision at home plate.

In the second game, Fanshawe found themselves down early again but couldn't come all the way back, losing 5-3. Hawkins went 5-for-7 at the plate in the two games versus Humber.

The Falcons head to Windsor, Ont., on Tuesday to face the St. Clair Saints (5-2). The Saints are tied with Humber for the best record in the OCAA.
