DURHAM 1, ST. CLAIR 0

OSHAWA, Ont. - The Durham College women's softball team came up with a big 1-0 victory over the St. Clair Saints on Sunday afternoon to cap off a perfect three-win week.

Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) had a spectacular performance on the mound as she shutout St. Clair, allowing only four hits. Black did a great job of keeping the ball in play and letting her defence step up, as none of the 21 St. Clair outs were strike outs. This was Black's first complete game shutout of the season.

Black also scored the lone run, as she was cashed in on a one-out sac fly by Kayla Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) in the sixth inning.

In the top of the second inning, St. Clair had thought they scored a run on a sac fly of their own. However, Durham appealed that the runner left the bag early, resulting in the runner being called out for a double play.

Alexa Georgiou suffered only her second loss of the season for St. Clair, as she allowed one run off of six hits in six innings of work. Georgiou is 6-2 on the year. Skyler Patterson, who leads the OCAA with a .511 batting average, went 0-for-3 at the plate.

Durham is now 8-3 and St. Clair falls to 11-4. Durham and Conestoga (10-3) are the only two teams in the OCAA with three losses.

Up next for Durham is a trip to Humber College (9-5) on Tuesday, Sept. 30 for a single game against the Hawks. First pitch is at 6 p.m.
