DURHAM 8, HUMBER 5

ETOBICOKE, Ont. – The Durham College women's softball team picked up their fourth straight win with an 8-5 road victory over the Humber Hawks on Tuesday.

Durham (9-3) moves a half game behind St. Clair (11-4) and Conestoga (10-3) for the top spot in the OCAA standings. Humber (9-6) is heading in the opposite direction having dropped three of their last four games.

Freshman pitcher Sam MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.) earned her third win of the season, after coming into the game in relief of starter Lydia Kalbfleisch (Moorefield, Ont.). MacCallum allowed one run on four hits in two and a third innings worked. Kalbfleisch had a solid start, but the Hawks managed to throw up three runs in the fifth after a costly error.

Four Lords had multi-hit nights including Tara Robinson (2-for-5), Kayla Gammie (2-for-3), Justine Pike (2-for-4) and Katrina Gammie (2-for-5).

With the Lords holding on to a slim 5-4 lead in the top of the sixth inning, a three-run rally was spurred on by timely hits by Courtney Hobbs and Pike. Humber would make things interesting in the bottom of the seventh inning, but the Lords would escape with the win after retiring the tying run at the plate.

Although the Lords scored eight runs in the game, the offence had some hiccups as they stranded 12 runners on base, including twice with the bases loaded.
