DURHAM 4, SENECA 3

NORTH YORK, Ont. - The Durham College women's softball team earned their fifth straight win with a narrow 4-3 victory over the Seneca Sting.

Durham is 10-3 on the year and is the only team in the OCAA with three losses. Conestoga and St. Clair are tied with Durham for top spot with matching 11-4 records.

OCAA athlete of the week Ashley Black (Waterloo, Ont.) had another outstanding outing on the mound as she pitched a complete game without allowing an earned run. Black struck out six batters with Seneca only registering four hits. Black is 3-1 this season with a 2.60 earned run average.

After a Durham error allowed three Seneca runs to score in the bottom of the fourth, the Lords found themselves down 3-2. Durham would turn things around and score single runs in back-to-back innings to take a 4-2 lead, while Black and the Lords defence would shut down the Sting the rest of the way to earn the win.

Black also had another big day at the plate as she went 2-for-4 with an RBI. Caleigh Coels (Duncan, B.C.) and Katrina Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) also went 2-for-4 and combined for three runs and an RBI.

Durham will travel to Hamilton, Ont., on Saturday for a doubleheader against Mohawk before coming back home for two games against the Conestoga Condors on Sunday. Game time for senior's night at Durham College is 1 p.m.

Durham College will also be hosting the LOSSA softball championship on Tuesday, Oct. 7.
