DURHAM 26, MOHAWK 6

HAMILTON, Ont. – The Durham College softball team etched their name in the OCAA record books with their offensive outburst against the Mohawk Mountaineers on the weekend. With 26 runs scored, the Lords broke two OCAA records and tied one more.

With seven runs batted in, Kayla Gammie (Guelph, Ont.) surpassed the previous record of six which was matched 12 times since Kellie Hinnells of Mohawk set the benchmark in 1993. Gammie knocks off former Durham Lords Kathy Glen (2005), Sheena Viner (2005) and Eric Dewey (2010) who also shared the record.

Also breaking a record was freshman Sam MacCallum (Whitby, Ont.), who scored six times in the game. The previous record of five runs was held by three former Durham Lords including Amanda McArthur (2006), Erin Dewey (2008) and Erica Dewey (2008).

With 32 runs scored between the two teams, that ties the OCAA record for most runs in a game, which was set back in 1991 when Durham defeated St. Lawrence by a score of 29-3.

Durham currently sits in a tie for first place with the St. Clair Saints, heading into the final week of the regular season. The Lords will also fly out to Calgary for the CCSA national championship that is set to take place from Oct. 10-13. Durham will be matched up in pool B with St. Clair, Calgary and Saskatchewan.
