FINLAY CALLS IT A CAREER

TORONTO - After more than 350 games and three decades at the helm, Rick Finlay is retiring as head coach of the women's softball team at Seneca College.

Coach Finlay made the announcement today, calling an end to a career that saw his Seneca Sting teams win four Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championships and 10 additional OCAA medals.

During his time with the Sting, Finlay sported a regular season record of 159-131, winning more than 185 games in his coaching career including the post-season.

Finlay has coached three OCAA top batters and five OCAA top pitchers in addition to the dozens of all-stars that benefited from his expertise and approach to student-athlete development.

Since Finlay took over as head coach of the softball team, Seneca players have gone on to hold five OCAA individual records and another four team records.

Director of Sport and Recreation, Linda Stapleton, shared the opinion of many when speaking about the impact Finlay had on the softball program.

"As the cornerstone of our women's softball program, Rick has been instrumental in the growth of the sport at Seneca. Over the years, hundreds of student-athletes benefited from the culture of success Rick so proudly instilled in his teams."

The Seneca Sting would like to wish Coach Finlay well in his retirement and thank him for 30 years of devotion and dedication to the Sting family.

The search for a new head coach will begin later this week.
