CONESTOGA 13, MOHAWK 5

HAMILTON, Ont. - After a pair of one run losses Friday to St. Clair, the Conestoga Condors swept the Mohawk Mountaineers 13-5 and 11-5 in Ontario Colleges Athletic Association women's softball at Mohawk Sports Park Sunday, Sept. 11. It was the first game action for the Mountaineers in their 2016 OCAA season.

The Condors scored in every inning but one in the opener. They broke open a one run game with six in the third frame.

Laura Rumph was 4-for-5 with two RBI for the visitors from Kitchener. She had two triples, one double and a single in support of winning pitcher Acadia Northfield.

Aimee Leduc was tagged with defeat for Mohawk. Nikki Grover led the Mountaineers, going 3-for-4 and knocking in three runs. Amber Kukuk and Sarah Bell drove home the other Mohawk runs and Bell scored three times.

In the second game Conestoga scored six runs in the first inning and had three more in the fourth, en route to their victory.

Amanda Rose was 4-for-5, including two triples and two singles, as Mary Kate Allen picked up the win. Grover had another good game at the plate for Mohawk, going 3-for-4, but she also suffered the defeat.

The Mountaineers next action is Tuesday (Sept. 13) when the Seneca Sting visit Mohawk Sports Park for a twin bill, starting at 5:30 p.m.
