OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 12.

Victoria Lawrence
School: George Brown
Program: Community Work
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Ottawa, Ont.
Lawrence was unstoppable in George Brown's 81-77 overtime victory over Centennial on Jan. 10. The second-year player recorded a double-double scoring 27 points while grabbing 17 rebounds, 13 off the defensive glass. She also added a game-high seven steals in the team's first regular season game of 2020. Trailing 36-30 at halftime, Lawrence took over in the third quarter dropping 11 points and grabbing six rebounds. She went on to post 15 points, 11 rebounds and six steals in the second half to help the Huskies pick up their seventh victory of the season.

Emily MacEachern
School: Mohawk
Program: Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Markham, Ont.
MacEachern had a big offensive performance on Jan. 10 in Mohawk's comeback five-set victory over Cambrian. The second-year outside hitter recorded 26 kills on 73 attempts with only four errors for a .315 attacking efficiency, while adding a pair of blocks for a career-best 28 points. MacEachern is currently fifth among OCAA players in total kills with 111. Mohawk fell behind two sets before reeling off three straight for the win, avenging an earlier four-set loss against Cambrian in November. At 8-3, Mohawk is in third place in the West Division standings.

Ewan Mason
School: Fanshawe
Program: Recreation & Leisure Services
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Mason recorded a career-high 19 points in Fanshawe's four-set road victory at Sheridan on Jan. 9 to open the second half of the regular season. The Fanshawe rookie notched 17 kills and a pair of blocks while adding four digs. It was Mason's second straight OCAA match contributing double digits in kills and points. He currently leads his team with 68 kills, averaging 2.27 per set. The win avenged an earlier five-set loss to Sheridan last November, and evened Fanshawe's record at 5-5. It was also head coach Patrick Johnston's 100th OCAA league victory.

Johnnie Richardson
School: Niagara
Program: Police Foundations
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Niagara Falls, Ont.
Richardson was instrumental in Niagara's 93-84 win over Conestoga on Jan. 10. Finishing the night with 19 points, Richardson was the difference maker in a game that saw both teams evenly matched and eager to grab the first win of 2020. Richardson's 11 points in the fourth quarter of a very tight game allowed his team to secure the victory, and improve to 4-6. Richardson has been a consistent performer with the Knights all season, averaging 14.7 points and 12.1 rebounds per game, and stepped up his play to ensure his team picked up a big 'W'.

Jasmyn Stoffers
School: Redeemer
Program: Psychology
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Frankford, Ont.
The second-year outside hitter was dialled in on Jan. 10 in Redeemer's opening match of the second semester, a straight-sets victory over Boreal. Stoffers finished the night with 13 aces, tied for the most-ever in an OCAA match. She also surpassed Redeemer's record of 10 aces in a match set by teammate Abby Sluys last January. Stoffers had just one service error over three sets. The record breaker also added nine kills for 22 total points. Stoffers sits alone at the top of the league with 42 aces after adding five more in a straight sets win over Cambrian on Jan. 11.

Tyler Vanessen
School: Georgian
Program: Sports Administration
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Whitby, Ont.
Vanessen continued his fantastic season with season-highs in both points with 29 and in rebounds with 18 in Georgian's 97-74 win over Fleming on Jan. 10. It was the fifth-year veteran's eighth double-double in 11 games this season as he leads the Grizzlies in scoring averaging 18.9 points per game, good for 11th in conference. The reigning OCAA League All-Star also reached 1,000 career OCAA points, shooting 9-of-14 in the contest, including 2-of-2 beyond the three-point arch. Georgian now has a record of 7-4, good for fourth place in the East Division standings.
