OCAA ATHLETES OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 23.

Isaiah Ankra
School: Seneca
Program: Early Childhood Education
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: North York, Ont.
Ankra had one of the biggest weeks in Seneca history. The third-year guard averaged 38.5 points per game while adding 3.5 rebounds and 3.5 assists. Ankra was at his best late in a pair of Sting victories, scoring 15 points in the fourth quarter against Georgian on Feb. 18 and 17 points in the fourth quarter against Centennial on Feb. 21, both single-digit wins. His 40 points against Centennial was a career best. Ankra and his teammates will take their talents to the post-season, when Seneca hosts Fanshawe in an OCAA championship qualifier on Saturday.

Alexa Armstrong
School: Durham
Program: Police Foundations
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Whitby, Ont.
Armstrong was an imposing presence at the net for Durham as the Lords booked their ticket to the OCAA championship with an OCAA qualifier victory versus Sheridan on Feb. 22. The third-year middle surpassed her previous regular season career-highs in points, kills, and blocks - coming up clutch in the playoff outing with 18 points, 11 kills, and an impressive seven blocks. With no answer for her in the middle, Armstrong recorded a .450 attack percentage in the four-set battle. Durham will take on Niagara in the quarter-finals on Thursday.

Jay Barham
School: Durham
Program: Business Fundamentals
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Ajax, Ont.
Barham put on a career performance in Durham's final win of the season on Feb. 19. Defeating Fleming 78-67 in Peterborough, the first-year guard registered a career-high 27 points in 38 minutes of action. Barham was efficient as well, finishing the night 10-for-15 from the floor, with two three-pointers, and five free throws made. He would go on to add two rebounds, three assists, and a steal to round out his stat line on the night. In Durham's regular season finale on Feb. 23, Barham shined on the boards with eight rebounds, while adding five points in a 66-52 loss at UTM.

Zae Sellers
School: George Brown
Program: Civil Engineering Technology
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Minneapolis, Minn.
Sellers, a fifth-year point guard, experienced a career night in her final regular-season game for George Brown on Feb. 21. In front of friends and family, Sellers scored a career-high 31 points. Her efficient shooting was on display from deep as she drilled a career-best seven three-pointers. Sellers also recorded seven rebounds, five assists and five steals in an 88-36 victory over Georgian in the season finale. The win allowed George Brown to clinch the second playoff seed out of the East Division, as the Huskies host Mohawk on Saturday in an OCAA championship qualifier.

Judah Verbeek
School: Conestoga
Program: International Business
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Elmira, Ont.
Verbeek had a strong performance in Conestoga's first-round playoff match against Loyalist on Feb. 22. He was a difference maker in a three-set victory that secured a berth to the OCAA championship for the Condors. The first-year outside hitter struck for 13 kills, two service aces and a stuff block totalling 16 points. He also contributed a half-dozen digs. Verbeek led all Condors averaging 3.9 points and 3.31 kills per set during a successful regular season as Conestoga went an impressive 14-4. They now take on Fanshawe in the OCAA quarter-finals on Thursday.

Tatiana Weissflog
School: Algonquin
Program: Baking & Pastry Arts
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Merrickville, Ont.
Several Algonquin players had big games in their playoff victory over Redeemer on Feb. 22, but none bigger than Weissflog, who finished the four-set match with a game-high 20 points on 15 kills, four blocks and a service ace. The second-year middle has been an important contributor since joining the Thunder last season, and she was stellar against the Royals in a must-win match. Algonquin is hoping Weissflog can continue that play this week when the Thunder travel to the OCAA championship in North Bay. Algonquin takes on St. Clair in the OCAA quarter-finals.
