OCAA REPLAY: 2020 OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

OCAA REPLAY: 2020 OCAA WOMEN'S VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP

With varsity sports and recreation activities currently on hiatus due to the global pandemic, the OCAA will shine a spotlight on memorable games from the previous 2019-20 season.

Our feature Game of the Week is the gold medal game of the 2020 OCAA Women's Volleyball Championship between the Humber Hawks and Fanshawe Falcons which took place Feb. 29, 2020.

Humber and Fanshawe had combined to win the last dozen OCAA championships which would increase to 13 no matter the result. The Falcons held bragging rights of being the reigning champions, while the Hawks laid claim to having won 11 straight provincial titles between 2008 and 2018. Would Humber reascend to the thrown, or would Fanshawe thwart the challenge?

OCAA Player of the Year and All-Canadian Janelle Albert of Fanshawe came up with perhaps her biggest individual performance of her OCAA career with 30 kills and two blocks for 32 offensive points. League Second-Team and Championship All-Star Alex Bartmann of Humber quarterbacked the offence on her side of the net with 41 assists in the finale.
