2021-22 CCAA FEMALE APPRENTICES

2021-22 CCAA FEMALE APPRENTICES

The Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) is proud to announce its participants for the 17th season of the Female Apprentice Coach Program (FACP).

The FACP, which is funded by Sport Canada, is designed to identify and support female graduating student-athletes who demonstrate the desire and skills for coaching by providing them opportunities to share in the coaching experience in CCAA sports.

New in 2021-22, the CCAA will offer the opportunity for select apprentices to participate in a second year of mentorship.

"Thanks to Sport Canada, the CCAA will provide a record number of apprentice coaches with education, practical experience and training through a qualified mentor coach in 2021-22,” said Sandra Murray-MacDonell, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the CCAA.

A total of 20 new female apprentices will take part in the program during the 2021-22 season:

Based on 2020-21 FACP Final Report feedback along with recent survey information from the Leadership Project, FACP funding will be extended over a two-year period to assist with the retention and development of Apprentice coaches.

"New to the program this season is the opportunity for previous year apprentices to receive continued support for training and education,” said Murray-MacDonell. "This serves to build on an Apprentice's confidence and skill acquisition and translates into the retention of women' in Canada's coaching ranks.”

Once again this season, the FACP will be supported by ‘Developing Future Leaders', a successful program which is led by former CCAA student-athlete Danielle Cyr.

Cyr is the head coach off the Mount Saint Vincent University Mystics Women's Soccer team and she hopes to help increase the number of CCAA female head coaches.

The goal of the FACP is to increase access for young women to coach at a post-secondary competitive level, provide high level quality coaching mentorship, and support their professional development to facilitate their continued pursuit of coaching.

In the program's 16-year history, 252 female apprentices have been supported.
