OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 15.

All OCAA Stars of the Week will receive an acrylic bag tag courtesy of Nothers, the Preferred Awards Supplier of the OCAA.

Emma Clements
School: St. Clair
Program: Social Justice & Legal Studies
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Windsor, Ont.
Clements had two huge matches to lead St. Clair to two big home victories this past week to open the second half of the regular season. On Jan. 11, the first-year setter led all players with 35 assists adding two kills, four service aces, one stuff block and 14 digs in a five-set victory over Fanshawe. Then against Mohawk on Jan. 14, Clements recorded 19 assists, one kill, three aces, one block and six digs in a three-set victory, improving St. Clair's record to 9-2, setting up a West Division second place showdown against Conestoga (9-2) on Wednesday.

Evan Kritz
School: Conestoga
Program: Commerce - Financial Services
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Cambridge, Ont.
Kritz was the offensive leader for the Conestoga Condors, leading the team to a one win, one loss week against two top five OCAA opponents. In match one versus the Niagara Knights on Jan. 12, the first-year outside hitter went off for 16 kills while also contributing two service aces and 19 digs in a four-set upset victory for just Conestoga's second win on the season. In the weekend match up versus the West Division leader Fanshawe Falcons on Jan. 14, Kritz led the Condors once again with 14 kills in a tough three set defeat.

Sebastian Lethbridge
School: Fanshawe
Program: General Arts & Science
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Lethbridge came out of the holiday season still in a giving mood, dishing out 54 assists over a pair of matches to open 2023. Lethbridge recorded 31 assists in a straight-sets victory at the St. Clair Saints on Jan. 11 and followed this effort with another 23 assists in a three-set victory at the Conestoga Condors on Jan. 14. The fifth-year captain also contributed nine digs and four points in the two contests. Named the MVP when Fanshawe won a national championship in 2019, Lethbridge is among the OCAA leaders averaging 8.31 assists per set.

Angelo Sarsonas
School: Durham
Program: Business - Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Sarsonas led the East Division leading Durham Lords to a 95-84 road victory against the Loyalist Lancers in their first regular season game back from the holiday break on Jan. 13. Sarsonas played 39 minutes in the game, leading all scorers with 33 points shooting 12-of-22 (55 per cent) while adding seven rebounds, five assists and a pair of steals. Going into halftime with a one-point lead, Sarsonas showed leadership on the court through the fourth-year guard's play, posting a 21-point second half to extend the lead and secure the win.

Terrie Savoie Robichaud
School: La Cité
Program: Hygiène dentaire
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: Miramichi, N.B.
Savoie Robichaud had an amazing 2023 debut performance in La Cité's straight-sets victory over the Fleming Knights in Peterborough on Jan. 15. The second-year outside hitter recorded a dozen kills on 23 attempts while adding a service ace for 13 total points for the victorious Coyotes. Savoie Robichaud also contributed eight digs. The Coyotes picked up where they left off in 2022, having won three straight matches to improve to 4-7 in the East Division. Savoie Robichaud is one of three players that have played in every set for La Cité this season.

Talia Vreugdenhil
School: Redeemer
Program: Health Science
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Frankford, Ont.
Vreugdenhil, a first-year two-sport athlete in soccer and basketball, had a career game in Redeemer's 102-98 double overtime victory over Sheridan on Jan. 11. Vreugdenhil recorded a career-high 30 points and 20 rebounds. The 20 rebounds ties Redeemer's single game record and Vreugdenhil's 30 points was the seventh-best single game scoring performance in school history. In conference play, Vreugdenhil is second in the OCAA in field goal percentage shooting 38-of-78 (48.7 per cent) and is seventh in rebounds per game averaging 10.5.
