OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 12.

All OCAA Stars of the Week will receive an acrylic bag tag courtesy of Nothers, the Preferred Awards Supplier of the OCAA.

Bobby Buck
School: Loyalist
Program: Heating, Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Techniques
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Belleville, Ont.
Buck turned in two great performances over the weekend. The fourth-year guard scored a career-high 22 points against Georgian on Feb. 10, shooting 7-of-8 from the field (87.5 per cent) while adding four steals and five assists in a 107-98 defeat. In Loyalist's final regular season home game the following day, Buck tallied 12 points, four rebounds, three steals and three assists. Buck's game sense, athleticism and incredible defensive abilities were all major factors in the Loyalist's 72-52 upset win victory over the Seneca Sting.

Alison Cotton
School: Fanshawe
Program: Early Childhood Leadership
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Cotton has been on fire this semester for the Fanshawe Falcons. On Feb. 7, the fourth-year student-athlete notched 16 points and seven rebounds in Fanshawe's 86-55 road win against the Redeemer Royals. Then at home on Feb. 11, Cotton had a game-high 23 points and added a dozen rebounds and five steals in a 69-56 victory over the Niagara Knights. Cotton's non-stop energy has been a key factor on both ends of the floor in Fanshawe's four game win streak. Cotton is currently fifth in total points among OCAA players with 216.

Kevin Genjaga
School: Humber
Program: Digital Business Management
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Mississauga, Ont.
Humber mixed doubles captured its first OCAA title since the league changed the format in 2019. Genjaga and teammate Sierra Hardwick (Midhurst) finished the provincial championship with a 6-1 record. After losing to host Niagara in extra ends in the round robin, Humber scored two in the final end to win the gold medal 8-7. Both Genjaga and Hardwick were named First-Team Championship All-Stars. Along with the women's team title, Humber won two of the three OCAA gold medals for the second time in three seasons.

Morgan Goffar
School: Lambton
Program: Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Stratford, Ont.
In home victories over the Humber Hawks and Redeemer Royals this past weekend, Goffar recorded back-to-back double doubles off the bench to help the Lambton Lions extend their win streak to six games. Handing the Hawks their first loss of the regular season on Feb. 10, the first-year forward set a new career-high with 19 points on 8-of-16 shooting (50 per cent) to go along with 11 rebounds and four assists in a 68-46 victory. The following day, Goffar had 10 points and 10 rebounds in a 74-46 win over the Royals, also adding an assist.

Jacob Jones
School: Mohawk
Program: Pre-Technology
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Brantford, Ont.
Jones was named Championship MVP for a second straight season, skipping the Mohawk Mountaineers to an OCAA gold medal repeat. The Mountaineers were the only undefeated rink at the OCAA championship, going 6-0 en route to a second straight title. Mohawk doubled up Humber 8-4 in the gold medal game. Along with the MVP award, Jones was also named a First-Team Championship All-Star for the second straight year. Jones and the Mountaineers will now attempt to win a national gold medal at next month's college championships.

Meaghan Mallett
School: Humber
Program: Social Science
Year of Eligibility: 1
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Waterloo, Ont.
Mallett was named Championship MVP for a second straight season, skipping the Humber Hawks to an OCAA gold medal three-peat. The Hawks avenged their only loss at the OCAA championship in the gold medal game and thwarted host Niagara's bid for a perfect tournament, winning 5-2. Along with the MVP award, Mallett was named a Championship All-Star for the second straight year being named to the Second Team. Mallett and the Hawks will now attempt to win a national gold medal at next month's college championships.
