OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Feb. 26.

All OCAA Stars of the Week will receive an acrylic bag tag courtesy of Nothers, the Preferred Awards Supplier of the OCAA.

Jeremiah Brown
School: George Brown
Program: Early Childhood Education
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Brown was named a Championship Second-Team All-Star at the men's basketball nationals held in Calgary, Alta. The fourth-year forward averaged 19 points in George Brown's three games against Western Canadian teams totalling 57. Brown came up big in a 120-113 overtime victory over Capilano in the quarter-finals scoring a game-high eight points in the extra five minutes for 31 overall. Brown was highly decorated this season, also being named OCAA East Division Sixth Man of the Year and an OCAA East Division Second-Team All-Star.

Jessica Byers
School: Humber
Program: Interior Design
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Haliburton, Ont.
Byers was named Championship First-Team All-Star second at the curling nationals held in Sudbury, Ont. Byers and the three-time reigning OCAA champion Humber Hawks had an impressive 6-1 record to finish atop the round robin but fell short of a national medal losing to eventual champion Augustana 11-5 in the semi-finals then Concordia 8-4 in the bronze medal game. Byers was also named OCAA Championship First-Team All-Star second at last month's provincials, and was a OCAA Championship First-Team All-Star second in 2022.

Brittney English
School: Humber
Program: Carpentry & Renovation
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
It was English's final collegiate curtain call at the women's basketball nationals in Hamilton, Ont. The fifth-year guard was named a Championship Second-Team All-Star scoring at least 21 points for the two-time reigning OCAA champion Humber Hawks in three separate games at the competition totalling 66. English shot an impressive 20-of-37 (54 per cent) from the field at the tournament, and was twice named Humber's Player of the Game. English was also named an OCAA Championship All-Star at provincials earlier this month.

Claire Randell
School: Niagara
Program: Exercise Science
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Sharon, Ont.
Randell was named Championship Second-Team All-Star skip at the curling nationals held in Sudbury, Ont. Randell and the Niagara Knights made history taking home the silver medal after going 7-2 at the competition. It marks the first time a Niagara rink reached the podium at nationals. Niagara tied its OCAA rival Humber Hawks for the top record in the round robin at 6-1 then faced two Alberta teams in the medal round. Niagara edged Concordia Thunder 7-6 in the semi-finals before narrowly dropping the gold medal game 5-4 to Augustana Vikings.

Austin Snyder
School: Humber
Program: Professional Golf Management
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Curling
Hometown: Brantford, Ont.
Snyder was named Championship First-Team All-Star third at the curling nationals held in Sudbury, Ont., helping lead the Humber Hawks to a national championship. Snyder and the Hawks went 6-1 in the round robin before defeating their OCAA rival Sault Cougars 8-4 in the semifinals, followed by the SAIT Trojans out of Alberta 10-3 in the gold medal game. The Humber men's rink has now reached the national podium three straight times following back-to-back silvers. The Hawks are celebrating their first national curling title since 2016.

Chad Vincent-Simon
School: St. Clair
Program: Protection, Security & Investigation
Year of Eligibility: 4
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Scarborough, Ont.
Vincent-Simon was named a Championship First-Team All-Star at the men's basketball nationals held in Calgary, Alta. The fourth-year forward averaged 20.3 points in four games at the competition totalling 81. Vincent-Simon was named St. Clair's Player of the Game in a 108-93 quarter-final victory over the St. Mary's Lightning, scoring a game-high 28 points on 10-of-15 (66.7 per cent) shooting from the field. Vincent-Simon was previously named an OCAA West Division Second-Team All-Star and an OCAA Championship All-Star earlier this month.
