OCAA STARS OF THE WEEK

TORONTO - The following student-athletes have been recognized by the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) for their accomplishments during the seven-day period ending Sunday, Jan. 28.

Kenny Ang
School: Georgian
Program: Advertising & Marketing Communications
Year of Eligibility: 2
Sport: Men's Volleyball
Hometown: Edmonton, Alta.
Ang, a sophomore setter, had back-to-back 31 assist performances for the Georgian Grizzlies in a pair of straight-set victories over the George Brown Huskies and Loyalist Lancers last week, increasing Georgian's winning streak to five matches. Ang continues to lead all OCAA student-athletes in assists averaging 9.82 per set, as the Grizzlies are sitting in first place in the East Division with a 14-2 record heading into the final weekend of regular season play. A big showdown is looming against the second-place Algonquin Wolves on Friday.

Alison Cotton
School: Fanshawe
Program: Early Childhood Leadership
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Recording a seventh and eighth double-double of the season, Cotton led the Fanshawe Falcons to a pair of home victories this past week. During a 74-52 win against the Sheridan Bruins on Jan. 24, the fifth-year player scored 17 points while grabbing a dozen rebounds, shooting 44.4 per cent (8-of-18) from the field. Then on Jan. 27, Cotton recorded 11 points, 10 rebounds and seven steals in an 81-36 triumph over the Conestoga Condors. Cotton is averaging 13.5 points and 10.3 rebounds through 13 regular season games.

Brett Fischer
School: Lambton
Program: Practical Nursing
Year of Eligibility: 5
Sport: Women's Basketball
Hometown: Wallaceburg, Ont.
Fischer has been a model of consistency for the Lambton Lions this season. On the road on Jan. 27, Fischer recorded an eighth double-double, helping the Lions hand the Humber Hawks their first home loss with a 74-62 win. Fischer recorded 13 points and pulled down a season-high 18 rebounds, 11 of which came off the defensive glass. Fischer added four steals and a pair of assists in the win. For the season, the fifth-year forward is now tied for the OCAA lead averaging 11.5 rebounds per game while also averaging 13.5 points per contest.

Kiana Huggins
School: St. Clair
Program: Business Administration - Finance
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Women's Volleyball
Hometown: London, Ont.
Huggins led the St. Clair Saints to two wins this past week and five straight wins overall. On Jan. 24, the third-year outside hitter had a big match averaging five points per set. Huggins had a dozen kills, three service aces, two assists and six digs in a straight-sets win over the Fanshawe Falcons. On Jan. 27, Huggins had another solid game with eight kills and five digs in St. Clair's 3-0 win over the Conestoga Condors. The reigning All-Canadian is second in the OCAA averaging 4.5 points per set helping St. Clair to a record of 14-2.

Robert Mannella
School: Redeemer
Program: Physical Education
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Burlington, Ont.
Mannella led the Redeemer Royals with a game-high 24 points in their 121-71 victory over the Conestoga Condors on Jan. 24. In 23 minutes of action, the third-year guard also contributed five rebounds, five assists and two steals. Mannella shot 9-of-15 (60.0 per cent) from the field and 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) beyond the three-point arc. Redeemer avenged an earlier 87-63 at Conestoga last November. Mannella leads the Royals in offence averaging 16.8 points per game, just outside the Top 10 among all OCAA student-athletes.

Husam Shallo
School: Centennial
Program: Business Marketing
Year of Eligibility: 3
Sport: Men's Basketball
Hometown: Toronto, Ont.
Having recorded no double-doubles for the season, Shallo achieved the rare triple-double on Jan. 27, leading the Centennial Colts to a 109-77 home victory over the Algonquin Wolves. The third-year shooting guard scored 10 points while grabbing 13 rebounds and contributing 11 assists. Shallo followed this up with a double-double the following day, scoring 13 points while adding 10 rebounds in a 70-64 victory over the Coyotes de La Cité. Centennial improved to 12-4 with the victories in a heated race a top the East Division.
