FANSHAWE FINDS WINNER'S CIRCLE IN OCAA WOMEN'S INDOOR SOCCER

As one of the most decorated schools in OCAA history, one sport had continued to elude the Fanshawe Flacons, Indoor Soccer. Traditionally a strong outdoor program, they had never made it to the championship final on indoor turf until this year.

The Flacons were well on their way to change the landscape of their trophy case after upended Conestoga 1-0 in their semi-final to mark the first time in school history the women’s team had reached the championship round.

In the other semi final Fleming Peterborough defeated the defending silver medalist, Humber Hawks, 1-0 in a thrilling semi-final that required penalty kicks. The Fleming ladies managed to score off of the goal post on both of their opening shots of the final stage to go ahead 2-0 before Humber was finally able to beat Jennifer Carol, the tournaments Top Goal Keeper, but it was not enough as the Knights advanced to the final.

Riding the momentum the Falcons worked hard to establish, the Falcons maintained defeated the Knights 2-0 to earn their school’s 35 tournament championship gold medal. Emily Costello (defense) turned in a solid tournament on defense and was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
