GEORGIAN MEN WIN AND WOMEN FINALISTS AT GEORGE BROWN INVITATIONAL

VAUGHAN, Ont. - The Georgian Grizzles men's and women's indoor soccer teams had a great showing at their second tournament of the season, the George Brown Invitational hosted at the Ontario Soccer Centre in Vaughan, Ont., this past Friday.

The men's team posted a 4-1 record in the round robin with wins over St. Lawrence-Cornwall (1-0), St. Lawrence-Brockville (6-0), George Brown (1-0) and Seneca (1-0). The team's only loss came to Sault College who defeated the Grizzlies 1-0, but Georgian would get another chance against them in the final.

After both teams finished the round robin 4-1 they would meet again with the tournament championship on the line. It was another tight battle that went scoreless all the way to overtime where the Grizzlies broke through with a goal to win the title.

Georgian's third-year veteran Victor Frohmann (Midhurst, Ont.) was named tournament MVP for his great effort throughout the day.

The Grizzlies women's team had a great tournament of their own making it all the way to the final.

Georgian opened the tournament with a 4-3 win over St. Lawrence-Cornwall and followed that with a close match against Seneca where the Grizzlies fell 1-0. They wrapped up the round robin with a 2-1 victory over Centennial which placed them in second place in their pool.

They would go on to face the George Brown Huskies who finished first in the other pool for a semifinal match. The Grizzlies had an impressive match against the Huskies and would eliminate the host 1-0 to earn a spot in the final.

The Grizzlies would once again face the Seneca Sting and while they had their chances in the end it was the same result as their first match with the Sting coming out on top 1-0.

Next up for the Grizzlies will be hosting their own tournament which takes place on Friday, Feb. 20 at the Bradford Sports Dome.
